The morning of Sunday, May 26, was a chilly but sunny, and most importantly: dry and clear! Jon, the Erics, and our guest Jeremy (Eric L's friend from Colorado) managed to arrive within minutes of each other and park a couple of spots apart in the Soldier Field garage. So even before we started riding, the day was turning out much better than Bike the Drive 2011 when Eric L last participated in this event. This was a good thing, since the 2012 ride (which Eric L missed) was sunny and beautiful, conditions that the group might have attributed to the weatherman's absence.
Our total distance was just over 31 miles in about 2.5 hours of riding, which wasn't too bad considering this was Jon and Eric W's first outing of the year. And this was also Jon's first trip on his new bike, which seemed to work really well for him (and also gave the rest of us some 'new bike' envy). It was also Eric L's first trip on Tim's bike, which he had to borrow after failing to pick up his own on time from the bike shop on Saturday afternoon. (Who figured they would close at 4 PM??) So a big THANKS goes out to Tim!
Here are the ride details:
Perhaps the best part of the trip (aside from the women at the Bryn Mawr turnaround marveling at the hilariousness of bike shorts) was the stop for lunch at Emmetts Ale House in Downer's Grove.
To summarize: Good friends, good food, good brews, and a good morning of riding!
