Plans for Summer 2013

Happy New (Biking) Year!

The Cycling Group is back in gear this summer and has been making plans for a few special rides.  These will be in addition to our regular weekly rides that likely will start up some time in May (if winter ever ends).  Below is a brief summary of what we have planned, along with the most likely dates for each activity.

Sunday, May 26
Bike the Drive event in downtown Chicago.  Register yourself individually and let the group know you are planning to ride.  We'll work out some carpools as the date gets nearer.
Saturday, June 29
We're planning our first out-of-state trip to the exotic area north of Illinois called Wisconsin. (Fear not -- we're driving there, not biking.) The plan is to ride 30-50 miles along the trails near New Glarus.  And no, it isn't just an excuse to visit the brewery.  But we will be visiting the brewery.
Friday-Saturday, July 12-13
Since we had so much fun last year, and because we are certain the heat will not be nearly so oppressive this year, we are planning a repeat of our trip from Plainfield to Starved Rock State Park along the I and M Canal Trail. We'll leave early Friday morning, camp that night, then carpool home in the morning.
Saturday, July 27
Two weeks after the Starved Rock trip, which hopefully will be enough time to recover, the group is talking about trying its first century ride. That's right: 100 miles. Actually about 106 with the route we have planned.  And if you click on that image to the left, it takes you to a website where you can purchase century ride stickers and vehicle decals.  But only after you finish the ride!
